Upstream introduces Action Catalyst Tools to implementers from 15 African nations

Upstream designed and introduced the Action Catalyst Tools in Johannesburg to over 100 users including healthcare implementers and Ministry of Health representatives from 15 African nations, WHO, CDC, USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The ACT tools converted universally applicable insight gathered over several years of research into tools to help implementing organizations systematically increase uptake of HIV prevention methods. In all, 4 tools were introduced:

  1. Persona Tool: implementers use it to determine who in their market to target for uptake

  2. Portfolio Mapping Tool: implementers use it to identify gaps in their intervention portfolio relative their target market

  3. Intervention Design Tool: implementers use it to design new interventions in their gaps

  4. Intervention Prototyping Tool: implementers use it to refine interventions for local context and their target market

Now that several countries are using these tools to increase HIV prevention uptake, they can more easily share and cross pollinate successful solutions. Together, they are able to achieve coverage targets more effectively and efficiently.
